The final formal debate will take place on Tuesday, November 24th.
The topics and groups for each debate are as follows:
1. China’s one-child (or family planning) policy
For: Ray, Justin, Lucy, Leo, Katrina
Against: Peng, Maria, Sue, Candy, Galen
2. Capital Punishment: Is it ever justifiable to execute criminals?
For : Tony, Luyu, Rebecca, Karin, Gong
Against: Lin, Cherry , Sylvia, Jin, Terry
All groups should work together to create a strong team and an organized structure within their group. Each group should elect a member to act as chairperson, and to take notes, provide a rebuttal, and conclusion.
Debates will be marked based on the following criteria:
• Participation
• Use of language of debating
• Quality of ideas and research
• Organization and structure
• Team work
• Relevant vocabulary (within debate and on signs)
• Correct pronunciation
• Checking understanding
• Taking turns in an organized fashion
• After debate: your reflection and comments
