Cultural different between Chinese and British

Nowadays, the relationship between China and British in politics, economy, and culture will become more and closer. All of us know that every nation have their own etiquette standard. So in the following, I will take china and British to look at some cultural difference in etiquette.

Cultural different between British and Chinese on politeness can be found in many respects, such as greeting or chatting with each other.

People usually greet with each other while people meet acquaintances or friends. In Britain, people always use ‘Good morning/evening/afternoon’, ‘Fine day, isn’t it?’ or ‘how are you doing?’ to greet with each other. But in china, I think we always say ‘Have you eaten yet?’, ‘What are you going to do?’ to start our consideration with friends. May be it is difficult for British to understanding. Foreigners don’t think that it is a communicative sentence of the greeting who can’t understand Chinese culture. Sometimes, it should to lead to misunderstanding. For example, if you say ‘Where are you going?’ it may be make them unhappy, so they will answer you that It's none of your business. Or you use ‘Have you eaten yet?”, they may be misunderstand they you invent him/her.

People also chat with each other while people meet acquaintances or friends. In china, people like to talk about ‘how old are you?’ ‘How much money can you gain?’ or ‘Are you married?’ In British culture, the topics of age, income, marriage, family situation, firm beliefs are areas of personal privacy. British people usually chat about weather with each other. For example, ‘It's fine day, isn't it?’ or ‘It's raining hard, isn't it?’

Summarizes, these are all my opinion about Cultural different between Chinese and British.

  2. Thank you, Tony.

You brought up some very interesting points and I like how you look at differences in etiquette. Be sure that the main idea (topic sentence) of the paragraph is at the beginning of the paragraph and not before it. Also, you start off with a good introduction, but you only focus on etiquette, and don't mention any other differences or the similarities between the two, so you don't answer the question completely.

Try to use more transitional words and phrases to connect ideas and paragraphs. (Also, in the conclusion, the correct phrase is To summarize, or To sum up, not Summarizes!)

Overall, good job and thank you for your thoughts!
