differences between British culture and Chinese culture

There were a lot of differences between British culture and Chinese culture.
To begin with, picking teeth in China is very common! Normally, we often pick our teeth after dinner wherever at home or in the restaurant. Even though the people who are pay attention to their manners in the public place, usually willing to cover their mouth at the top with the other hand when they were picking the teeth. In contrast to the British culture,it is considered rude to pick between your teeth where others can see you. Western restaurants usually do not supply toothpicks, so it is sometimes hard to decide when to remove food stuck between the teeth. It is usually best to excuse yourself and go to the bathroom.
Furthermore, British people think that to spit food (bones, skin, etc. ) out of your mouth are uncivilized. This is not done in Western restaurant. If you do need to take something out of your mouth, bring your napkin up to your mouth and place the item in it. In terms of Chinese people, You can face directly in front of others people to spit food on the table or paper towel.
Third, speaking loudly! Most of British people try to keep the conversation to their own table. If the whole restaurant can hear you, you are speaking too loudly and it will be considered rude. In fact, some westerners find it difficult to do business in Chinese restaurants because the noise level is just too high. However, Chinese people do not think so, they like to talk loudly to show their self-confident.
Also, there were lots of similarities between the two countries culture. For example, many of the Chinese and British children prefer to keep a pet at home, and make a friend with a pet. Many of these children are full of love for the animals. Much more, all people prefer to celebrate kinds of festivals. Whatever, the Mid-Autumn Festival, Valentine’s Day, New Year's Day, World Sleep Day, April Fools' Day and so on, people always be able to think and create more and more festival to make themselves happy all of the world.
As a result of many culture differences between Asians and Westerns, leading to many of the issues’ opinion and solution are not in the same way. But, to strengthen communication and mutual understanding is necessary, so that will enable us more respective for each other.

  1. Thank you Luyu! I really enjoyed reading your essay! And I agree- where are all the comments from your classmates? =-)

Well, you brought up many interesting and different points. I especially enjoyed reading about the different perspectives on manners! And I didn't know there was a World Sleep Day! You write well, with a good use of introduction, conclusion, paragraphing, and transitional words!!! I like the use of the topic sentence in the paragraph on similarities. I think your introduction sentence would have been better as a topic sentence for your first body paragraph, and you could have included a brief introduction to the topic instead.

There is some awkward sentence structure- such as the sentences in the conclusion- but your meaning and style of writing is very clear and organized.

I would have liked to hear your opinion more in the conclusion on some of these differences because you mentioned such interesting points! But VERY well done!
