Ray's writting for week 5

Do the benefits of tourism outweight the costs?

Any countries have tourism, and no any country can without tourism. Now tourism problem become a big issue in the world, because it both has good side and bad side. Up to now, it is difficult to charge the tourism is good or bad. In this essay I’ll talk about the advantages and disadvantages form different aspects and try to found the solutions of bad points.

In the first instance, every country needs tourism to improve economic. The reason is it can increase the income of country, production of products, reducing the number of unemployed people and so on, especially earning and employment. ( Douglas C. Frechtling, Endre Horváth ,1999) For example, Tourists pay the money for the services such as transportation, hotel, foods and guides, and they sometimes by the life products and souvenirs. In this way the people who are working in these industries can earn much money and the government also can get amount of tax. It can use to develop the commercial centres, hospitals, schools and improve the welfare for citizens. We can imagine that if one country had no any tourist, it should lost amount of money which related with tourism. And it could in trouble that it has no enough money to develop its country especially poor country.

Indeed, tourism can destroy the environment both of natural environment and human-made buildings. Because the tourists cost a big number of natural resource and make pollutions, it can harm the ecosystem. ( Andrew Holden,2000) Also the big number of tourists can damage the ancient buildings. In the other words, if you lost your surroundings how you can living there. It would be a big problem send to you descendant. And this problem will become bigger and bigger, it should be more difficult to solve in the future.

In conclusion, the government should aware about this problem. At the first, they should limit the number of tourists to reduce the damage and fund to protect the environment and old landmarks. They should keep a balance between damages and environment protection, because if you lost your environment, nobody can rebuild it for you.

  1. Ray,

This is essay is clear and answers the question well. Your references are appropriately used, but be careful to include the reference within a sentence and before the full stop at the end (so the sentence being referenced is clear). Also, any internet references at the end of text need a date that the site was accessed. Writing is fairly clear to follow, although there are problems with complex sentence structure and some awkward vocabulary (ie. life products). Also, avoid starting sentences with 'And'.
